There will be some changes to public transport services in Greater Manchester over the festive period. Here is a summary to help you with your travel plans. For help in planning your journey, visit our plan a journey webpage.
If you are travelling on Tuesday 3 January, you should be aware of the following service changes across the network.
Metrolink
A normal weekday service will operate on all lines except the Altrincham line.
Due to rail strikes taking place, Metrolink services will only be able to operate to Altrincham between 7am and 7pm. Outside of these times, tram services will operate as far as Timperley, with a replacement bus operating between Timperley and Altrincham.
Services will operate as follows:
Before 7am
- Timperley - Piccadilly every 12 minutes.
A replacement bus service will operate between Timperley and Altrincham at a 12-minute frequency.
7am to 7pm
- Timperley - Piccadilly every 12 minutes.
- Altrincham - Bury every 12 minutes.
This means that there will be a service between Timperley and the city centre every six minutes.
After 7pm
- Timperley - Piccadilly every 12 minutes.
A replacement bus service will operate between Timperley and Altrincham at a 12-minute frequency.
Bus
Normal service.
Please refer to your individual bus route for more information. You can find departure information for your route by typing your service number into the search bar on the bus webpage.
Free Bus
Normal service.
Bus stations
- All bus stations will be open between the hours of 7am and 11pm.
- Trafford Centre bus station will be open between the hours of 7am and 11pm.
- Eccles bus stations will be open between the hours of 8.20am and 4.20pm.
- Hyde and Wythenshawe bus stations will be open between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
- Manchester Airport bus station will be open between the hours of 8am and 4pm.
Local Link
Normal service.
Ring and Ride
Ring and Ride will operate between the hours of 8am and 10.45pm.
Rail
The RMT Union Industrial Action will take place with limited services operating.
Check immediately before travel with the train operator.

Travelshop Opening Times
- All other Travelshops will be open between the hours of 7am and 5.30pm.
- Altrincham Travelshop will be open between the hours of 6.30am and 8.10pm.
- Horwich Parkway Ticket Office will be open between the hours of 6.30am and 7.35pm.
- Shudehill Travelshop will be open between the hours of 7am and 6pm.
- Hyde, Middleton, and Eccles Travelshops will be open between the hours of 8.30am and 4pm.
TfGM’s Customer Contact Centre and Social Channels
Customer Contact Centre and Social Channels will be open between the hours of 7am and 8pm.
