In October last year we opened our latest transport interchange, Wigan Bus Station. Delivered in partnership with Wigan Council the new £15.7 million facility was opened two months ahead of schedule, with the first bus service setting off on Sunday 28 October.
Designed to be accessible for everyone, including tactile paving and electronic and braille signage, the bus station is also fitted with solar panels on the roof and the central bus island has been planted with wild flowers to attract wildlife.
Wigan Bus Station is the latest transport interchange to be built across Greater Manchester, joining Bolton, Rochdale, Wythenshawe and Altrincham. Modern and convenient they increase the use of sustainable transport and boost local economies by providing attractive gateways to town centres.
Wigan Bus Station was funded by Local Growth Deal Funding.
