Cycling and walking in your community

Cycle and Stride is an exciting new project to help people and groups become more active through cycling and walking. To do this, we want to work with you, using your understanding and the knowledge you have of your local area and local community.

If you are interested in a project like this and want to encourage friends, family and neighbours to start moving more, we can provide the support and means to help you and your community with one or more of the following:

  • Grants which help you and your community get moving; whether it be for cycle parking, Walk Leader training or access to cycles
  • Guided rides and walks
  • Cycle training to support confidence and gain new skills
  • A website packed full of fun, engaging resources to help you spread the message and inspire others to become active

Due to the high levels of interest received, the next phase of recruitment for the Cycle and Stride project will be in Autumn 2021. If you would like to add your details to the waiting list, please complete the expression of interest form. We will add your details to our database with a view to contacting you later in the year to find out more about your group and ideas.

Becoming a local champion

Every community would benefit from a Cycle and Stride Champion to promote the benefits of cycling or walking to the shops as a means of getting from A to B. Sometimes all it takes to get someone active is having someone they know and trust offering friendly advice about how to cycle with the kids in tow, what potential routes are on their doorstep or what app they use to record their activity. You could help them take their first step and support them along the way.

Who can apply

We are looking to support people and groups that would like to be more physically active.

In particular we want to support women and girls, people from ethnically diverse communities and those who are less well-off financially.

We would like to work with people and groups from across Greater Manchester in Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan.

If you have a great idea you think fits, or you want to build on walking and cycling activities already taking place, we’d like to hear from you. Fill in the quick and easy form and we’ll contact you for a chat to find out more.

You can also contact Faye and Claire via email

With thanks to the project funders, The London Marathon Charitable Trust, who are helping us to get more people in Greater Manchester cycling and striding for longer, healthier and happier lives.
