- 6 miles
- Traffic-free
This is one of six ‘Cycleways’ in Greater Manchester: new routes that give cyclists more space on traffic-free paths, quiet roads, and special lanes separated from the traffic.
This completely traffic-free route takes you along the canal towpath between Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester city centre. The path has been resurfaced to make it easy for cycling, and has solar-powered lights to guide you in the dark. The route goes past the National Cycling Centre and Etihad Stadium and through the regenerated Ancoats area of the city. There is secure bike parking at the Cycle Hubs at Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester, and at Ashton and Guide Bridge station at the other end of the route.
