Eccles Line: Resurfacing works

Saturday 20 March to Monday 5 April

From Saturday 20 March until Monday 5 April highway resurfacing work will take place on Eccles New Road.

As a result, trams will not operate between Eccles and MediaCityUK during this time.

Trams will run from MediaCityUK through to Ashton-under-Lyne only.

A replacement bus service will run direct from Eccles to MediaCityUK every 15 minutes. This service will not call at any of the stops in between.

In addition, season ticket holders can use their passes on the following services:

Customers travelling from Ladywell, Weaste, Langworthy and Broadway should check for suitable alternative travel options, listed by stop below.

There will also be two seperate phases of road closures (and diversions) and changes to some bus services. Check the road section below for more information.


Shuttle service

A replacement bus service will run direct from Eccles to MediaCityUK every 15 minutes. This service will not call at any of the stops in between.

Customers using contactless payment should touch in at Eccles and out at their final destination. Other tickets and passes can be shown to the replacement bus driver upon boarding.

Customers traveling from Ladywell, Weaste, Langworthy and Broadway should check for suitable alternative travel options below.


Eccles

To Manchester city centre (via MediaCityUK)

Customers can use the below alternative travel options however Metrolink tickets and passes will not be accepted and tickets will have to be purchased to make a journey.

Rail:

Services depart from Eccles Rail station, a 3 minute walk from Eccles Interchange. Find your journey and book tickets here.

Buses from Eccles interchange:

To MediaCityUK

Board the shuttle bus direct to MediaCityUK (Services will run at a 15 minute frequency - Metrolink tickets and passses accepted).

To Broadway

Board the shuttle bus direct to MediaCityUK (Services will run at a 15 minute frequency - Metrolink tickets and passses accepted). You can then walk to Broadway in around five minutes via the Quays. Click here for the walking route

To Langworthy

Walk 32 minutes via Eccles New Road or board the number 10 or 52 from Eccles Interchange. Alight at Liverpool Street/Langworthy Road and walk to the stop in around 7 minutes via Langworthy Road.

Customers will need to purchase tickets for the above bus services.

To Weaste

Walk 23 minutes via Eccles New Road or board the number 10 or 52 from Eccles Interchange. Alight at Liverpool Street/Weaste Lane and walk to the stop in around 5 minutes via Eastbourne Avenue.

Customers will need to purchase tickets for the above bus services.

To Ladywell

Ladywell

To Manchester city centre

Walk to Eccles Interchange in 7 minutes via Eccles New Road. You can then board a shuttle bus service direct to MediaCityUK (Services will run at a 15 minute frequency).

You can then catch a tram at MediaCityUK calling at all stops to Manchester city centre.

Customers using contactless payment should touch in at Eccles and out at their final destination. Other tickets and passes can be shown to the shuttle bus driver upon boarding.

Customers can walk to MediaCityUk in around 24 minutes via Eccles New Road and Langworthy Road South.

To Broadway

Customers can walk to Broadway in around 18 minutes via Eccles New Road and Langworthy Road South.

Customers can walk to MediaCityUK in around 15 minutes via South Langworthy Road and board a Metrolink service calling at all stops to Manchester city centre. This service will continue to Ashton-under-Lyne calling at all stops.

Alternatively customers can walk for 7 minutes to Langworthy Road/Liverpool Street (via Langworthy Road) and board the 10 or 50 bus services to Manchester.

Customers will need to purchase tickets for the above bus services.

Customers using contactless payment should touch in at MediaCityUK and out at Eccles. Other tickets and passes can be shown to the replacement bus driver upon boarding.


Road closures and driving advice

One way road closures will be in effect from Saturday 20 March until Monday 5 April.

Road users should allow extra time and check travel apps before their journey.

Local diversion routes detailed below will be busier than usual.

Phase One: Saturday 20 to Friday 26 March

Eccles New Road - Phase One works

  • Vehicles will be able to travel Eastbound on A57 Eccles New Road (Manchester bound) from the junction with Gilda Brook roundabout to the junction with South Langworthy Road between Saturday 20 March and Friday 26 March.

  • Vehicles will also be able to travel southbound on Langworthy Road South between Eccles New Road and Broadway.

  • Eccles New Road will be closed to traffic Westbound (towards Eccles). All traffic will be diverted via Langworthy Road and Eccles Old Road.

  • Langworthy Road South will be closed Northbound. All traffic will be diverted via Broadway, Trafford Road and Eccles New Road.


Phase Two: Saturday 27 March to Monday 5 April

Eccles New Road - Phase Two works

  • Vehicles will be able to travel Westbound on A57 Eccles New Road (Eccles bound) from the junction of South Langworthy Road and Gilda Brook roundabout.

  • Vehicles will be able to travel Northbound on Langworthy Road South between Broadway and Eccles New Road.

  • Eccles New Road will be closed Eastbound (towards Manchester). All traffic will be diverted via Eccles Old Road and Langworthy Road. There will be a requirement to close Stott Lane at the Junction with Eccles New Road during this phase.

  • Langworthy Road South will be closed Southbound between Eccles New Road and Broadway. All traffic will be diverted via Eccles New Road, Trafford Road and Broadway.
