Lightopia is back in Manchester for its fourth year. Heaton Park will transform into a colourful wonderland of interactive light installations; water shows and audio-visual attractions.

Lightopia will take place from Thursday 24 November to Monday 2 January 2023, and will be open between 5pm and 10pm.

Key messages:

  • Heaton Park and Bowker Vale Metrolink stops are only a few minutes’ walk from the park.
  • Metrolink services on the Bury line run every 6 minutes (until 8pm on weekdays and 6.30pm on Saturday). Trams operate every 12 minutes outside of these times.
  • The following bus services will take you straight to the venue: 41, 59, 66, 90, 115, 116, 135 and 156.

Metrolink

A fast and frequent tram service runs to two stops within easy walking distance of Lightopia on the Bury line.

Journeys take around 20 minutes from Manchester city centre. From the city centre to Heaton Park will require a 1+2+3 zone ticket.

Remember you must have a valid Metrolink ticket or pass before boarding a tram. View a full breakdown of the prices.

Metrolink services on the Bury line run every 6 minutes (until 8pm on weekdays and 6.30pm on Saturdays). Trams operate every 12 minutes outside of these times. Please check your last tram time from your stop by visiting our tram schedule page.

Piccadilly Gardens works

Essential track replacement works will take place at Piccadilly Gardens tram stop from Tuesday 22 to Tuesday 29 November.

  • Altrincham line trams will be unable to operate from Piccadilly Station and will instead operate every six minutes between Bury to Altrincham.
  • Customers wishing to go to Lightopia from Piccadilly rail station are advised to walk to Market Street or take a replacement bus to Victoria.

Park and ride

Parking spaces are limited near the venue, so why not using one of our Metrolink park and rides? The closest stops with park and ride facilities are:

  • Radcliffe with 480 spaces, 22 disabled spaces.
  • Whitefield with 331 spaces, 13 disabled spaces.

From these stops the journey time on Metrolink to Heaton Park is less than 10 minutes.

Tickets

Get on board a bus with simple and clear low bus fares.

  • Adults will pay no more than £2 for a single bus journey, while a £5 1-day AnyBus Adult travelcard will cover unlimited bus travel within the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester until 3.59am the following day.
  • Children aged five to 16 will pay no more than £1 for any single bus journey. The 1-day AnyBus Junior travelcard will cover unlimited bus travel within Greater Manchester for just £2.50 a day.

Train

Manchester is well served by rail, with services running into Manchester Piccadilly, Deansgate-Castlefield, Oxford Road and Victoria.

Please note that Aslef union members will be on strike on Saturday 26 November. A very limited rail service will operate. Customers are advised to travel only if necessary and to check immediately before travel. It's also anticipated that the strikes may impact rail journeys on Friday 25 and Sunday 27 November.

From 22 November to 29 November, from Manchester Piccadilly rail station: Please walk to Market Street or take a replacement bus to Victoria.

From 30 November, from Manchester Piccadilly rail station: Please board a Bury line tram from Piccadilly Stations directly to Heaton Park. These services operate every 12 minutes.

From Victoria rail station: Please board a Bury tram to Heaton Park. Services run every 6 minutes.

From Oxford Road rail station: Please board a Bury tram from Deansgate- Castlefield to Heaton Park. Services run every 12 minutes to Heaton Park.
