Manchester City welcome Burnley to the Etihad stadium on Saturday 18 March at 17.45pm.
Key messages
- There is planned industrial action on the railways on Saturday, significantly affecting train travel.
- It is expected that there will be an increase in the use of coaches and private hire vehicles to travel to the match. If travelling by road, please add additional time to your journey if your route involves not only Great Ancoats Street (as above), but also Oldham Road, Rochdale Road, Ashton New Road, Hyde Road and Alan Turing Way.
- Tom Grennan plays the AO Arena at the same time as the fixture, therefore, Victoria tram stop and the Inner Ring Road around the arena is expected to be busier than usual.
Metrolink
A fast and frequent tram service runs straight to the stadium’s dedicated tram stop Etihad Campus on the Ashton line. 12-minute service will operate on the Ashton-under-Lyne line.
Journeys from the city centre take around 10 minutes. You can purchase a zone 1+2 ticket, which will cover your journey there and back from the city centre, for £3.50.
Based on previous fixtures, the following stops have also been busier on match days:
- Altrincham
- Chorlton
After the game, trams will not serve Holt Town and Velopark until crowds have cleared from the Etihad Campus stop.
Park and ride
Two park and ride sites are conveniently located close to M60 Junction 23 and offer connections to the ground on the Ashton line. Park there for free and complete your journey to the stadium by tram:
- Ashton West with 194 spaces
- Ashton Moss with 200 spaces
From these stops the journey time to the stadium is less than 25 minutes.
Driving
Journey times will increase on Mancunian Way (eastbound), Ashton New Road, Ashton Old Road, Hyde Road, and Alan Turing Way from 3pm on the Saturday, as fans begin to travel to the ground.
Expect an additional 10 minutes added to your journey when driving along Great Ancoats Street and Whitworth Street before the match.
Planned roadworks are in place on Great Ancoats Street at the junction of Pollard Street that can add up to 20 minutes to journeys by road (if travelling the full length of Great Ancoats Street before the match). For further information on how this may impact journeys towards the Etihad, please visit our planned works webpage.
On the same day, there will be football fixtures in Salford, Rochdale and Stockport - all at 3pm on Saturday. If travelling in these areas, please factor in minor, localised congestion into your travel time.
Several roads around the stadium may be closed for approximately 20 minutes after the match to allow pedestrians to leave.
Parking
A strictly enforced resident parking scheme is in place on the streets around the ground, which is made clear through on-street signage.
Supporters should be aware that all official car park spaces have to be booked in advance. Please visit the Manchester City website for further information.
Bus services
On match day, the 216 is the most frequent service which runs directly to the stadium. You'll find the service at the north side of Piccadilly Gardens [stop D] in Manchester city centre. Buses depart to the ground every 10 minutes.
At the end of the game, 216 shuttle buses towards the city centre will be lined up on Ashton New Road opposite the South Stand.
Check out the closest stops to the stadium here.
Congestion on the roads may mean bus services take longer on match day. Consider allowing yourself a little extra time if you are intending to catch a service.
Train
Industrial action is set to impact the rail network on Saturday 18 March. Customers are advised not to travel by rail.

Walking
The Etihad Stadium is easily accessed on foot from all local areas so you may want to consider walking and getting those steps in!
Follow the Etihad Campus banners and ‘City Link’ signs to the ground, with the walk taking approximately 25 minutes.
