Manchester City welcome Liverpool to the Etihad on Thursday 22 December (kick-off 8pm).

Key messages

  • Fans travelling from the city centre can board an Ashton service to reach the stadium.
  • Trams and buses to the stadium operate every 12-minutes.
  • Journeys towards the ground after 6pm are likely to take 10 minutes longer due to congestion.
  • As the Christmas Markets continue until 22 December, there will be increased congestion in and around the city. Consider using public transport or a park and ride site.

A fast and frequent tram service runs straight to the stadium’s dedicated tram stop Etihad Campus on the Ashton line. A 12-minute service will operate on the Ashton line.

Journeys from the city centre take around 10 minutes. You can purchase a zone 1+2 ticket, which will cover your journey there and back from the city centre, for £3.50.

After the game, trams will not serve Holt Town and Velopark until crowds have cleared from the Etihad Campus stop.

Park and ride

Two park and ride sites are conveniently located close to M60 Junction 23 and offer connections to the ground on the Ashton line. Park there for free and complete your journey to the stadium by tram:

From these stops the journey time to the stadium is less than 25 minutes.

Journey times will increase on Mancunian Way (eastbound), Ashton New Road, Ashton Old Road, Hyde Road, and Alan Turing Way from 6pm on the Thursday, as commuters begin to travel home, and fans begin to travel to the ground.

Expect an additional 10 minutes added to your journey when driving along Great Ancoats Street and Whitworth Street.

Several roads around the stadium may be closed for approximately 20 minutes after the match to allow pedestrians to leave.

Christmas Markets

As the Christmas Markets continue until 22 December, there will be increased congestion on the roads if you are travelling to the match from the city centre. Roads are the busiest on weekend afternoons, so consider using public transport or a park and ride site.

A strictly enforced resident parking scheme is in place on the streets around the ground, which is made clear through on-street signage.

Supporters should be aware that all official car park spaces have to be booked in advance. Please visit the Manchester City website for further information.

Bus services

On match day, the 216 is the most frequent service which runs directly to the stadium. You'll find the service at the north side of Piccadilly Gardens [stop EM] in Manchester city centre. Buses depart to the ground every 10 minutes.

At the end of the game, 216 shuttle buses towards the city centre will be lined up on Ashton New Road opposite the South Stand.

Check out the map with the nearest stops here.

Congestion on the roads may mean bus services take longer on matchday. Consider allowing yourself a little extra time if you are intending to catch a service.

The nearest station to the ground is Piccadilly Station, which only a 10-minute Metrolink ride or 25-minute walk from the ground.

For tram services, just take the stairs down from the main concourse area at Piccadilly Station.
