Update

šŸš§ Due to resurfacing works, A635 Ashton Old Road will be closed in several locations until late November 2020. The details of all phases and how you can improve your journey will be shown on this page and be updated daily based on real time travel data.

Improve your journey šŸš—

āž”ļø Phase 3 will see Ashton Old Road closed (towards Ashton) from 7pm to 6am between Whitehurst Drive and Mill Street from Wednesday 15 October to Monday 26 October. It will be closed at the same locations, and at the same times, but in the direction of Manchester as well from Sunday 18 October to Friday 23 October.

Combined with the ongoing Great Ancoats Street major works it is advised to re-route your journey.

āœ… Drivers heading from South Manchester (including Mancunian Way eastbound traffic) should use A57 Hyde Road and A6010 Alan Turing Way to rejoin Ashton Old Road. Drivers from North Manchester should avoid the Great Ancoats Street area and use A6010 Alan Turing Way (you can join Alan Turing Way from several locations including Rochdale Road and Oldham Road) to reach Ashton Old Road.

ā° In the last week road users have been making cross-city trips via the City Centre. A lot of these journeys would be quicker via Alan Turing Way - or if travelling further afield via the M60. This may be further to travel in miles, but it will save time behind the wheel (and help keep everyone moving!).

Local and shorter trips in the area may be quicker (and healthier) by cycling šŸš“ & walking šŸš¶

Alternative travel

Public transport is safe to use, however please consider active travel options such as cycling and walking especially for shorter journeys.

Metrolink šŸšˆ

On weekdays, all Metrolink lines will run at a 10-minute frequency until 7pm when they will then operate every 20 minutes.

Click here for the quietest times to travel on the tram.

Can't travel the whole way by Metrolink? Many stops have free Park and Ride sites and cycling storage facilities.

From the east of Manchester, there are two Park and Ride sites available:

  • Ashton Moss with 200 spaces ā€“ 30-minute journey time to the city centre.
  • Ashton West with 194 spaces - 30-minute journey time to the city centre.

Both Park and Rides currently have spaces available.
