Advice for drivers

Please stay at home. Only travel if essential.

Works are ongoing - drivers are encouraged to re-time their journeys in order to avoid the most congested periods.

Delays of 3 minutes have occured in the morning peak travelling southbound between Middleton Road and M60 Junction 21. Travelling before 7am, between 10am and 3pm, and after 7pm are advised.

Travelling North? The delays have average only 2 minutes during both peak periods and also during the day.

Drivers heading to Oldham or Manchester City Centre could use the A62 Oldham Road as an alternative route during the works and busy periods.

For those making essential journeys, follow government guidance and wash hands before and after travelling, catch coughs and sneezes using a tissue and use contactless payments where possible.

Train

Greater Manchester is well served by rail, so why not beat the traffic and take the train!

Avoid the traffic and delays and hop on the train to get you to and from Manchester. Fast and frequent services operate seven days a week!

Moston, Mills Hill, Castleton and Rochdale all have regular services.

There is capacity on off-peak services Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 4pm, and after 6.30pm. It’s cheaper during these hours too!

Bus

The 181 and 182 bus services are still running during the works and have so far been running consistently to time. Other local services are also operating well.

It may be quicker to take a bus on other roads with regular services to and from the city centre. Several high frequency services go via A62 Oldham Road to Manchester, Oldham and beyond!

Check with your local bus operator for live service information.

Walking

During the works local and shorter trips in the Foxdenton, Butler Green and Chadderton areas may be quicker (and healthier) by walking.

Play your part in reducing congestion and improving the air we breathe by taking a brisk stroll whether that’s to work, taking the kids to school or to the match.

Cycling

Cycling, whilst the works take place, may be quicker than driving and healthier too!

There are cycle hubs located across the region, including at Hollinwood and Oldham Mumps.
