Lane closures are in place on the northbound side (towards Chadderton), between Newman RC College and the junction of Hunt Lane until late October 2020.

Update: ⚠️ Delays averaging 5 minutes for traffic heading southbound towards the M60 Junction 21.

Advice for drivers

Works are ongoing - drivers are encouraged to re-time their journeys in order to avoid the most congested periods.

Delays of 8 minutes have occured in the afternoon and evening peak period travelling southbound between Middleton Road and M60 Junction 21. Re-Time ⏲️ your journey now to save time stuck in traffic.

Re-Route ➡️ Drivers heading to Oldham or Manchester City Centre could use the A62 Oldham Road as an alternative route during the works and busy periods.

Cycling 🚴 and walking 🚶 for local and shorter trips may be quicker.

In order to protect people, ease pressure on our public transport system and keep traffic moving, we’re encouraging everyone to walk and cycle where possible - especially for shorter trips.

Alternative travel

Its safe to use public transport but please consider active travel options such as cycling and walking.

On public transport, you must wear a face covering unless you are exempt – if you don’t, you may be unable to travel and you could be fined £100. Read our face coverings guidance.

Metrolink 🚈

All Metrolink lines will run a 10 minute service until further notice.

Journey times are only 7 minutes to Oldham or 15 minutes to the city centre.

Why not leave the car or bike at a free Park and Ride?

  • Hollinwood with 202 spaces (Hudson Street, Failsworth, OL9 7LG) – 20 minute journey time to the city centre. Cycle Hub available.
  • Oldham Mumps with 286 spaces (Prince Street, Oldham, OL1 3TJ) – 27 minute journey time to the city centre. Cycle Hub available.
  • Derker with 267 spaces (Cromford Street, Derker, OL1 4DW) - 30 minute journey time to the city centre. Cycle Hub available. Cycle lockers available.

Train 🚂

Moston, Mills Hill, Castleton and Rochdale all have regular services.

There is capacity on off-peak services Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 4pm, and after 6.30pm. It’s cheaper during these hours too!

Bus 🚌

The 181 and 182 bus services are still running during the works and have so far been running consistently to time. Other local services are also operating well.

It may be quicker to take a bus on other roads with regular services to and from the city centre. Several high frequency services go via A62 Oldham Road to Manchester, Oldham and beyond!
