M60 Lancashire Hill closure, Stockport

Highways England will be undertaking essential improvement work on the Lancashire Hill bridge which crosses over the M60 motorway, between junction 1 and junction 27 in Stockport.

The work will commence from Monday 16 August with the aim to completed by mid November 2021.

Highways England will be undertaking essential improvement work on the Lancashire Hill bridge which crosses over the M60 motorway, between junction 1 and junction 27 in Stockport.

The scheme has now begun and is scheduled to finish by mid November 2021. The work will take place in three phases.

For each phase, the working hours and traffic management arrangements will be different.

If you travel around the local area it is advised you plan ahead and allow more time for travel.

Driving

Below is a breakdown of the second phase of the scheme:

Phase Two: 10 September to 25 October

Phase two of the works is replacing the existing barrier a new higher barrier to improve safety and accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians.

There will be a full 24-closure of Lancashire Hill (from Penny lane junction to Knightsbirdge A560 junction) to traffic.

Pedestrians and cyclists will have access at all times via a marked walkway along the centre of the bridge.

The busiest times to travel will be betwen 8am and 9am in the morning and from 4pm to 6pm in the evening.

If you are able to, consider re-timing your journey outside of these hours, either before 7.30am or after 7pm for a smoother trip.

Bus

During the works, some bus services in the area will be affected (please see below for the list of services). A temporary revised timetable will be displayed at bus stops in advance:

There will be three bus stops closed on Lancashire Hill (2 southbound, one northbound).

The roads surrounding the works may be congested, slow moving and shorter trips in local areas may be quicker by walking or cycling.
