Travel Choices for apprentices

TfGM offers support to apprentices through the Bike to Work, Access to Apprenticeships and Personal Travel Plan schemes.

To be eligible you must live within Greater Manchester, have an apprenticeship and your apprenticeship provider must support the scheme.

Bike to work

Are you an apprentice and living in Greater Manchester? If so, you could be eligible to receive a free bike to assist you on your commute to work.
Apprenticeship providers in Greater Manchester work with TfGM to offer a free package of cycling support, including:

  • Refurbished bicycles
  • Safety equipment
  • Cycle training and maintenance courses

In order to take advantage of the scheme, contact your apprentice provider who will provide you with an application form.

Once you have this, you must complete it and get it countersigned by your employer and provider, before posting or emailing it to TfGM.

If your application is successful, you will be contacted by one of the bike suppliers we’re working with so you can organise collection of your bike. As part of the scheme you will also receive a helmet, lock, pair of lights and high visibility jacket.

The Travel Choices team at TfGM will contact you three months after you have received your refurbished bike to complete an evaluation of the scheme and, once completed, the bike will be yours to keep.

As long as your provider is signed up you can take advantage of the scheme straight away. If not, your provider can sign up by contacting the Travel Choices team at access@tfgm.com.

Access to Apprenticeships

TfGM, along with System One and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, are supporting apprentices across the region with a free 28-day travel pass valid on bus and tram services.

If you are an apprentice and living in Greater Manchester, you could be entitled to the ticket valid on all Metrolink trams and most Greater Manchester bus services, including those run by Stagecoach, First and Arriva.

To apply, contact your apprentice provider who will provide you with an application form.

Once you have this, you must complete it and get it countersigned by your employer and provider, before taking it to a TfGM Travelshop where you will receive your free travel card.

After taking part you will be contacted by TfGM to get feedback on the scheme.

As long as your provider is signed up you can take advantage of the scheme straight away. If not, your provider can sign up by contacting the Travel Choices team at access@tfgm.com.
