Weekly roads update

Travel Update: Friday 7 to Thursday 13 May

If you’re travelling on Greater Manchester roads this week, please be aware of a number of highways improvements and changes which could affect your journey.

Local authorities have advised us of the following scheduled roadworks and changes. For more information on the nature of works listed, please contact the relevant council in the first instance.


Central Manchester

  • A partial road closure is in place on Sackville Street until Sunday 16 May. This closure will be in place from Bloom Street to Portland Street (and also on Major Street from Abington Street to Sackville Street). This will take place during weekends only (Friday night to Sunday night, specific times unspecified).

  • Blackfriars Street is closed until Friday 7 May. This closure is taking place place between 9am and 6pm each day.


Manchester

  • Traffic is currently prohibited due to carriage resurfacing works on Slade Lane between Stockport Road and Kingsway. The works will be in place until Sunday 23 May.

  • Queens Road (in Harpurhey) will be closed overnight at the railway bridge between the junctions with Oldham Road and Sedgeford Road on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 May and again on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 May. These closures will be in place between 10pm and 7am.

  • Altrincham Road will be closed from Brownley Road to cul-de-sac from Wednesday 12 May until Sunday 6 June.

  • Wilmslow Road will be closed between the junction of Hathersage Road and Rusholme Place on Tuesday 11 May. The work is taking place between from 9pm to 11pm.

  • A sequence of overnight closures will be in place along Princess Parkway (in Manchester) for resurfacing works. These closures will be in place from Saturday 8 to Wednesday 12 May.


Bolton

  • Multi-way signals will be in place on Blackburn Road in Bolton between Belmont Road and 538 Blackburn Road from Monday 3 May to Sunday 1 August.

  • Multi-way signals will be in place on Bolton Road, between Pilkington Road and Manchester Road,from Saturday 8 until Friday 21 May. These signals will be in place from 7:30am to 9:30am and 3pm to 6pm.


Bury

  • A road closure will be in place on Radcliffe Road in Bury, on the left hand turn from Manchester Road into Radcliffe Road, on Sunday 9 May. This closure will be in place from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Oldham

  • From Monday 26 April, Huddersfield Road, through Diggle Village, will be closed to northbound traffic between the Standedge Road junction and Ward Lane. This closure will be in place for 6 months and will affect traffic and bus services in the area. Please plan ahead and allow more time for your journey and check out our travel advice page.

Rochdale

  • Please visit the Rochdale Council website for more details of major road improvement schemes in the area.

  • Two way signals are in place on Pilsworth Road from South Heywood Link Road to Hareshill Road Junction and Pilsworth Road until February 2022. The works will take place from 8am to 5pm on weekdays only.

  • Two-way signals will be in place on Todmorden Road between Elim Street and Reddyshore Brow until Thursday 30 September.

  • Three way signals will be in place on Bury New Road, at Heywood Summit at the junction of Bury Old Road on Friday 7 until Wednesday 12 May. This closure will be in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm.


Salford

  • Please visit the Salford Council website for details of major road improvement schemes in the area.

  • The A6 Chapel Street repairs and replacement of the granite block road surface have begun. Lane closures came into in effect from Monday 19 April 2021 for a period of up to six months (and a contraflow from 3 May).

  • There will be lane closures in place at the following locations for the Trafford Road improvement scheme; Regent Road roundabout, Broadway, Goodiers Drive, Trafford Road and Merchants Quay. The work is taking place until November 2021.

  • Temporary traffic signals are in place in Swinton Town Centre which will affect essential journeys.Lane closures are also in place in Swinton town centre affecting journey times on the A6 and on other local roads. Please plan ahead and check out our travel advice page.


Stockport

  • There will be two-way traffic signals in place on Buxton Road adjacent to 34 Dunkeld Road until Tuesday 11 May.

  • Works have begun (and will be ongoing until until early September) on the A6 Stockport for a water pipe replacement. Starting at the Longshut Lane junction, the work will progress in phases along the A6 towards Macclesfield Road as United Utilities install the new water pipe. Tameside

  • Two-way signals will be in place on Roe Cross Road (in Mottram) at Stalybridge Road from Monday 3 to Monday 24 May.

  • Multi way signals will be in place on Manchester Road, (in Mossley outside no. 8) from Tuessday 4 to Wednesday 12 May. The work is taking place from 7am to 7pm.


Trafford

  • There are currently no planned roadworks taking place in Trafford this week.

Wigan

  • Multi-Way-Signals will be in place on Warrington Road from St Paul's Avenue to 320 Warrington Road until until Sunday 6 June.

  • Bolton Road will be closed between Bolton Old Road to Upton Road until Wednesday 30 June.

  • Leigh Road will be closed between Atherton Road to Pauline Street until Wednesday 30 June.

  • Wigan Road will be closed at the junction of Gloucester Street Roundabout until Wednesday 30 June.

  • There will be a road closure in place on Atherton Road between George Street and Dalwood Close until Wednesday 30 June.
