Here’s everything you need to know about taking your bike on public transport and cycling on or near the tramway. Before travelling, please familiarise yourself with Metrolink's safety for cyclists advice.
Metrolink trams
Folding bikes can be taken on trams as long as they are fully folded and covered, no other types of bike are allowed.
Buses
Folding bikes can be taken on buses if they are fully folded and covered however if the bus is busy, the driver may choose not to let you on.
Trains
Each rail company has different rules for travelling with a bike.
On Northern trains, for example:
- You can take your bike on any train if there's space
- You can't reserve a space. All trains can carry two bikes on a first-come-first-served basis
- There is no extra charge for bringing your bike
With other companies, you may need to reserve a place in advance and some train companies may not allow bikes at peak periods. Check the bike policy for each train company.
