Industrial action affecting bus services

Friday 19 to Monday 22 September 2025

Industrial action by some bus operator staff at Stagecoach, Metroline and First is expected to take place from Friday 19 to Monday 22 September, affecting many Bee Network services.

Whilst many bus services will not run, some buses, as well as trams and trains will continue to operate as normal.

We are urging people to please check before you travel, plan ahead and leave plenty of time to travel.

We are sorry in advance for any inconvenience this may cause to your journey.

Please note that all buses will still be showing as running through the Bee Network journey planner on the website and app. If using this, please turn off the bus option in the journey planner. You can check that the bus service is running through the app or website.

Tram

Trams are not affected by the strike and will operate on the disrupted days however, services will be busier than normal.

If you are able to, please consider travelling outside the busiest peak times (7-9am and 4-6pm) and allow extra time for your journeys.

Planned Improvement Works

From Saturday 20 to Sunday 21 September, drainage and track renewal works will take place at Derker.

No tram services will operate between Freehold and Rochdale Town Centre during this time.

A bus replacement service will operate between the affected stops.

Train

Trains are not affected by the strike and will operate on the disrupted days however, services will be busier than normal.

If you are able to, please consider travelling outside the busiest peak times (7-9am and 4-6pm) and allow extra time for your journeys.

Planned Engineering Works

Engineering work is taking place between Romiley and Rose Hill Marple/New Mills Central, closing all lines on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September.

Buses will replace trains between:

Manchester Piccadilly and Rose Hill Marple (Saturday only)
Manchester Piccadilly and Chinley

Ticketing

Metrolink

Bus tickets and passes will be accepted onboard tram services operating across the full Metrolink network including Bee Network app tickets (e.g. Child bus single ticket) and bus tickets loaded to a Smartcard.

Concession customers, including Our Pass will be able to travel on tram during the period by presenting their pass to inspectors.

Over the above dates, we're encouraging customers to purchase a ticket on the Bee Network app where possible.

If you usually pay via contactless tap and go on the bus and would like to continue over the disrupted weekend, customers are required to touch in and out for their tram journey. Where our customers are using the tram to complete their journey, customers will be able to claim a refund by contacting us on 03000 035 035 if you are charged more than the £5 day/£20 weekly bus ticket cap.

Going to events?

If you are heading to an event over the disrupted weekend, please plan ahead and allow plenty of time to make your journey as tram, train, roads and cycle hire will be busier than normal.

If you are attending the Manchester United home fixture and usually travel on the post-match shuttle bus, this service will not operate on Saturday 20 September.
