In January we made one of the largest ever public facing changes to Metrolink by introducing fare zones onto the tram network. Replacing stop-to-stop ticketing the new system brings Greater Manchester into line with other cities around the world. It offers passengers greater flexibility, better value for money and enables future integration with other modes of transport.
Because this was such significant change we wanted to ensure our passengers were well informed. Alongside a marketing and communications campaign more than 250 TfGM staff donned colourful bobble hats and went out across the network during the first week to help passengers understand the changes.
In Summer 2019 we will be introducing contactless payment on Metrolink, which will enable people to touch-on and touch-off the system with their credit and debit cards, with automatic daily price capping.
