Metrolink phase 3 consists of lines to Ashton-under-Lyne, East Didsbury, Oldham and Rochdale, and Manchester Airport. TfGM has been keen to learn from the experience of implementing Phase 3 and to carry out the required monitoring and evaluation activity to fulfil Department for Transport funding conditions.
An Early Findings Report has previously been issued. This is now complemented with a second report on the findings from further monitoring and evaluation work.
The second report’s findings relate to aspects including:
- The composition of travel on Phase 3 lines;
- Attractiveness of Metrolink to car available travellers and modal shift evidence;
- Implications of mode shift evidence;
- Factors explaining differences from Phase 3 patronage forecasts;
- Park and ride user surveys at selected sites;
- Patronage on the Oldham and Rochdale Line;
- Changes in door-to-door access brought about by Phase 3;
- Greater Manchester-wide economic impacts;
- House price effects; and,
- Impact on Wythenshawe communities of the Airport Line. There is also an accompanying video on YouTube
This is the last report to specifically focus on Phase 3. It is anticipated that, subject to further resources becoming available and where opportunities arise, a series of insight activities relating to the wider programme of Greater Manchester transport initiatives will be carried out.
