Strategies and policies
- The Greater Manchester Freight and Logistics strategy(PDF 650kB) describes the work of TfGM, local councils, freight companies and other organisations.
- The Transport for the North Freight and Logistics strategy (PDF) is a plan to reduce costs, create new facilities and attract investment to the freight sector in the 'northern powerhouse' area.
- The Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (GMSF) identifies land for jobs, new homes and transport infrastructure, including logistics sites. It will have a significant impact on the region's supply chain.
- The Greater Manchester Low Emissions strategy (LES) describes plans to improve health by tackling poor air quality and cutting pollution: freight operators and the logistics sector have a significant role.
Best practice schemes
We support schemes that improve the safety, sustainability and efficiency of road freight:
- TfGM's guide to Delivery and Servicing Plans (PDF 622kB) help businesses and organisations to reduce unnecessary deliveries, especially at peak times
- The Construction Logistics and Community Safety (CLOCS) scheme is about reducing risks from large vehicles to pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and other road users.
- The Fleet Operator Recognition (FORS) scheme is accreditation for commercial vehicle operators that meet good standards.
- The ECO Stars Fleet Recognition scheme helps operators improve efficiency, reduce fuel costs, and cut emissions.
- The LoCity scheme is about reducing emissions from commercial vehicles and improving the availability and affordability of electric vehicles.
- The European Union funded FREVUE scheme aims to increase the use of electric vehicles for urban freight.
- Polis is a network of European cities and regions developing innovative transport and freight technologies and policies.
