Getting to Altrincham 10K

The Altrincham 10K returns to the town centre on Sunday 7 September.

Key advice

On Sunday 6 September, from the start of service until 11am, tram improvement works will take place at Deansgate-Castlefield and Trafford Bar.

As a result, no trams will operate on the Eccles, Trafford Centre and Altrincham lines, with further service changes on the East Didsbury, Manchester Airport and Rochdale lines.

To help you get to the event, replacement bus services will operate on the affected lines until 12pm. A shuttle bus service will also be operation between Sale Water Park and Altrincham Interchange.

With longer journey times on the replacement bus, please allow more time for travel.

To allow the event to take place safely, a number of roads will be closed on a rolling basis. The following roads will be closed on Sunday 6 September:

Stamford New Road: 6am to 12pm
Regent Road, Market Street: 6am to 10am
Railway Street, The Downs, St Johns Road, Ashley Road: 9am to 10am
Hale Road: 9am to 10.20am
Shay Lane: 9.10am to 10.30am
Roaring Gate Lane: 9am to 10.45am
Whitecarr Lane, Clay Lane: 9.15am to 10.55am
Grove Lane: 9.15am to 11.15am
Moss Lane: 9am to 11.30am

With road closures in place to support the event, some bus services operating in Altrincham will follow a diversion, operate later in the day or may experience delays.

Travel by tram

Due to works, no trams will operate on the Altrincham line before the event. To help you get to the start line, a shuttle bus service will operate from Sale Water Park Park and Ride to Altrincham:

Buses will operate pre-event:

Sale Water Park (close to the Park and Ride) to Altrincham Interchange, departing at 7am, 7.30am and 8am.

The bus will depart from close to the roundabout under the M60 bridge. View a map of the departure point.

After the event, buses will operate back to the Park and Ride:

Altrincham Interchange (Stand B) to Sale Water Park (close to the Park and Ride) departing at 10.30am, 11am and 11.30am.

There are 285 parking spaces at Sale Water Park. If using the Park and Ride, you can park your car for free, and hop on the bus. Remember, to purchase a valid ticket before boarding a shuttle bus service. You can purchase this by using contactless or purchasing a ticket from the vending machine or on the Bee Network app.

Travel by bus

With road closures in place, some bus services will be diverted in Altrincham.

To allow the event to take place, the following bus services are on diversion from start of service until 12pm on the day: 5, 280 and 287.

From start of service until 12pm, 283, 284 and 288 services won't operate due to the road closures in place.

Additionally, the 247, 281, 282, 285 and 286 are expected to operate as normal, but may experience delays.

Both the start & finish lines can be reached on foot, in under 5 minutes, from Altrincham Interchange.

Travel by train

Looking to travel by train? Train services start later on Sundays. As a result, rail services will arrive into Altrincham after the event start time of 9.30am.

We are advising those attending to look at other travel options including tram replacement bus services.

Travel by car

To allow the Altrincham 10K to take place safely, several road closures will be in place an on the day and parking will suspended on some nearby.

There is also likely to be increased congestion around Altrincham town centre. We're advising travelling by public transport to Altrincham, where possible.

If you do drive, the following car parks are within a short distance of the course:

Stamford Quarter car park, WA14 1RH
Goose Green car park, WA14 2FF

If you have to drive or need to be dropped off/picked up, did you know that there are 24 park and ride sites in Greater Manchester, where you can park your car for free, and hop on the tram to your destination?

The nearest park and ride sites to Altrincham Interchange are:

Navigation Road (66 spaces, 5 disabled spaces)
Brooklands (84 spaces)

Cycling and walking

There is a secure on-site cycle parking for up to 53 bikes outside of Altrincham Interchange, with security and CCTV.

If you are going to ride to site, remember to bring a bike lock, pack bike lights and wear a helmet. Please do not drink and ride.

Spectating on the day

The Altrincham 10K will be ran along a relatively flat, circular route, towards Hale Barns, before returning to Altrincham town centre.
