Getting to Wigan 10K

7 September 2025

The Wigan 10K returns to the town centre on Sunday 7 September.

Key advice

To allow the event to take place safely, including time for the race to be set-up and roads to be cleared, the following roads will be closed from 8am to 2.30pm on the day:

Park Road
Woodhouse Lane
Woodhouse Drive
Scot Lane
Martland Mill Lane
Walthew House Lane
Stonehouse Road
Challenge Way
Stadium Way

Travel by bus

With road closures in place, some bus services will be diverted in Wigan.

In the days leading up to the event, please check our travel alerts page to find out if any of the below services will be affected.

Both the start & finish lines in Mesnes Park can be reached on foot, in approx. 12 minutes, from Wigan bus station.

The following bus services operate to Wigan:

Travel by train

If travelling to Wigan by train, you can reach Mesnes Park from both stations via short 18 minute walk through the town centre.

From Manchester Victoria

The first direct train is scheduled to arrive into Wigan Wallgate at 10.09am (approximately 43 minutes).

From Manchester Piccadilly/Manchester Oxford Road

Take a train to Salford Crescent and change for another service into Wigan Wallgate. The first train will arrive at 10.09am (approximately 60 - 70 minutes).

From Preston

The first direct train is scheduled to arrive into Wigan North Western at 09.05am (approximately 11 - 19 minutes).

From Warrington Bank Quay

The first direct train is scheduled to arrive into Wigan North Western at 10.37am (approximately 10 minutes).

From Liverpool Lime Street

The first direct train is scheduled to arrive into Wigan North Western at 09.13am (approximately 44 minutes).

From Southport

The first direct train is scheduled to arrive into Wigan Wallgate at 10.10am (approximately 32 minutes).

Travel by car

To allow the Wigan 10K to take place safely, several road closures and parking suspensions will be in place.

There is also likely to be increased congestion around Wigan town centre. We're advising travelling by public transport to Wigan, where possible.

If you do drive, the following car parks are within a short distance of the course:

Water Street multi-storey car park, WN1 1XD
Mona Street car park, WN1 1HP
Civic Centre car park, WN1 1BH

Spectating on the day

The Wigan 10K route is relatively flat with the route extending through the town centre, Entwistle Green and Stadium Way.

The course will then loop around the Brick Commmunity Stadium to follow the same route back to finish in Mesnes Park.
