Through this Department for Transport (DfT) funded project, TfGM have worked with TRL to make traffic signal (SCOOT UTC) data available as "open data" in order to improve the operation of Greater Manchester's network.
To understand how this data could best be used by third party developers to create products which can increase the quality and reliability of travel information, as well as to reduce fuel consumption, congestion and air pollution a series of workshops were held with the data community in Greater Manchester
This data is now hosted on TfGM's Open Data portal and TfGM are currently exploring how it can be used to enable GLOSA (Green Light Optimised Speed Advisory) which advises drivers of the correct speed at which to approach traffic signals in order to minimise the need to brake.
