The Handshake project is funded by Horizon 2020 and will seek to improve the quality of both cycling infrastructure and communications in Greater Manchester.  It will do this through understanding best practice in three of Europe's Cycling Capitals and identifying innovation in areas such as intelligent transport systems, bike sharing, modelling, bike parking, socio-economic assessment and governance and decision-making.

The Handshake Project will support the central goal of Greater Manchester's "Made to Move" Plan which is:

"To double and then double again cycling in Greater Manchester and make walking the natural choice for as many short trips as possible"

Through the course of this project TfGM will focus on learning lessons in three key areas, these are:

  • Segregated 'Dutch-Style' Cycling Infrastructure

  • Behaviour Change

  • Real-Time Feedback for Cycling (Smart Data/ App)
