This notice provides additional privacy information for: attendees at events run by the TfGM Active Travel Team; people who take part in surveys about active travel; representatives of applicants to Active Travel Grant schemes; stakeholder colleagues in the Greater Manchester Local Authorities, from engaged local schools or communities, and other active travel professional contacts; and members of the public who are interested in cycling and walking.


Purposes

We collect or obtain your personal information for the following purpose(s):

  • To conduct prize draws;
  • To administer Active Travel Grants for businesses and other organisations;
  • To administer events;
  • To contact colleagues in the Greater Manchester authorities, and other key regional contacts about active travel;
  • To deliver training courses for Safe Urban Driving, cycle skills and maintenance, for cycle training trainers and walk or ride leaders;
  • To undertake research on travel habits by businesses, the public, and staff and students of schools;
  • To undertake research on active travel;
  • To evaluate our active travel initiatives;
  • To promote and improve the environmental wellbeing of Greater Manchester by encouraging more people to travel actively;
  • For use in presentations and publicity material about cycling and walking (photographs).

To carry out these purposes, we collect or obtain:

  • Personal details;
  • Demographic data;
  • Visual images, personal appearance and behaviour;
  • Employment and education details;
  • Goods and services provided;
  • Business activities of individuals;
  • Details of complaints;
  • Family details;
  • Financial details;
  • Incident and accident details;
  • Licenses, permits or certificates held

We may also collect, store and use the following special categories of personal information:

  • Health;
  • Race or ethnic origin

Legal basis for processing

Our lawful basis for processing your personal information under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

  • Article 6 1(b): it is necessary for the performance of a contract with the data subject;
  • Article 6 1(e): it is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in us in s10A of the Transport Act 1968 or s99 of the Local Transport Act 2008;
  • Article 6 1(e): where we have asked for your consent to send you marketing and promotional information about our services (you may withdraw your consent at any time)
  • Our lawful basis for processing your special category personal information is:
  • Article 9 2(g): it is necessary for reasons in the substantial public interest, specifically to ensure equality of opportunity or treatment

Please note that if you fail to provide certain information when requested, we may not be able to perform our contract with you (for example, delivering cycle training to you).


Information sharing recipients

We may share personal information about you with the following types of organisations:

  • Suppliers and delivery partners – for delivery of services on our behalf;
  • Greater Manchester Local Authorities – for the purposes of evaluating and informing active travel initiatives. Information shared will generally be aggregated and/or anonymised.
  • The Department for Transport and its evaluation partners – for the purpose of fulfilling national evaluation requirements.

Sources of personal data other than the data subject

We only collect information directly from you.


Automated decisions

For this processing, all the decisions we make about you involve human intervention.


Data retention criteria

We will only keep your personal information for as long it is needed to fulfil the original purpose.

Evaluation survey responses will be retained for seven years.


Rights of individuals

You have a right to be informed about how and why your personal information is being processed. This notice fulfils that obligation. You also have a number of other rights.
