Transport for Greater Manchester is committed to making sure that we tell you about the ways in which we use your personal information and that we have the right controls in place to make sure it is used responsibly and kept safe from inappropriate access, theft, or misuse.

This notice explains how we use your information and tells you about your privacy rights and how to law protects you.


Summary of the use of personal data for consultation and surveys

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey; we appreciate you sharing your cycling, walking or wheeling experiences at this location. Your responses will assist us in better understanding cycling and walking in Greater Manchester, as well as informing future decisions on how we provide for cycling and walking.
The survey will either be completed face-to-face at selected locations or via a web link to an on-line survey.

Your participation in the survey is fully voluntary, so you are free to discontinue at any time. While being interviewed at a selected location, you can opt to end the survey, if you are completing the survey via the online link your responses will not be received until you click submit on the last page.

The survey should take no longer than 2 minutes to fill in.

At the end of the survey you will be given the opportunity to enter a prize draw with the chance to win £50 of high street gift vouchers.


What information we will collect from you (the purpose and legal basis for processing information)

The survey will ask you questions to evaluate the effect of Active Travel investment and its benefits to the people of Greater Manchester. The personal information we process and collect will be provided to us directly by yourself.

Whilst it is not compulsory some personal data may be collected in the process of this survey. Personal data that may be collected includes:

  • email address

There is a prize draw incentive for completing this survey, if you wish to take part, the survey will also ask for your contact information. For further information about how we handle personal data for competitions, please see our Competitions and Prize Draw Privacy Notice

You may also indicate whether you wish to be involved in a follow up survey as part of the Interviewer Quality Control Scheme (IQCS), which SRAD TfGM have accreditation for and use as the quality standard for data collection.

We process personal information as the law requires us to, or as it’s needed to perform a public function.

For personal data captured for this survey we use:

  • Article 6 1(e) processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.

If you have provided your contact details to be entered into the prize draw, we rely on your consent to process this data. You can withdraw your consent at any time.

  • Article 6(1)(a) consent: the individual gives clear consent for us to process their personal data for this specific purpose.

How we ensure the security of your data

We are committed to keeping your information safe and protected from accidental loss or alteration, inappropriate access, misuse or theft.

As well as technical, physical and organisational controls, we recognise that a well-trained, informed, and security alert workforce minimises privacy risks from human error and/or threats from malicious actors.

We require our service providers to implement appropriate industry standard security measures, and only allow them to process your personal information for specified purposes as written in our contracts with them.


Information retention

TfGM will retain your data for up to 6 months at which point data is then deleted from Snap, this is a permanent deletion. All personal data is removed from both Webhost and from any other files kept separately for the project. Any personal data held for a prize draw and IQCS follow up survey are included in this information.


Transferring data

For surveys and consultations conducted by TfGM, personal data will not be transferred out of the UK/EU.

Where personal data is transferred outside of the UK/EU TfGM will only do so under certain circumstances including:

  • With your consent
  • If we have a lawful reason or legitimate interest to do so
  • If we use service providers or contractors that are outside of the EU.

In these circumstances TfGM will provide further explanations and continue to make sure that the personal data is protected in the same way as it would be if data was remaining in the UK/EU.

At all times TfGM will comply with UK privacy laws.


Data sharing

This information may be shared with our data processing partner SNAP in order for them to provide hosting services to us. More information about how SNAP processes your personal information can be found in their privacy notice, which can be found here: Snap Surveys Privacy Policy

The information collected as part of this survey will be used by Manchester City Council (MCC) for the purposes explained above. You will not be identifiable in any results or data shared. All data will be shared using secure email and protected by a secure password. All personal data will be stripped before sharing with MCC.


What rights do individuals have?

TfGM must comply with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Under data protection law, your rights include:

  • Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.
  • Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.
  • Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.
  • Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your information in certain circumstances.
  • Your right to object to processing - You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.
  • Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
