About Metrolink

Metrolink is Greater Manchester’s flagship tram network, which opened in 1992.

A recent £1.5 billion expansion programme was one of the largest and most ambitious transport projects to be delivered in the UK.

It has seen the tram network grow to become the largest of its kind in the UK. Services now run to 93 stops on seven lines right across Greater Manchester.

A fleet of 120 modern trams carry some 40 million passenger journeys a year.

The Metrolink network is operated and maintained by KeolisAmey Metrolink (KAM) on a ten year contract, which started in July 2017.

They are committed to making the tram network more reliable, while improving customer service and security.

Investing in Metrolink

TfGM owns the Metrolink network and we are responsible for investing in it and planning for its future.

In early 2017 we opened a new tram line through Manchester city centre to help us run more frequent services and improve reliability.

We are currently building the new six-stop Trafford Park line, due to open 2020.

We are also looking at ways to further expand the tram network. Find out more about our future Metrolink plans.
