Throughout 2026, planned improvement work and disruptions will take place across the rail network.
These works will affect various different lines, and will be summarised below.

Gledholt Tunnel (Stalybridge - Huddersfield) Works: Saturday 19 September - Sunday 4 October 2026
Due to major engineering works taking place at Gledholt Tunnel, the railway between Stalybridge and Mirfield will be closed from Saturday 19 September to Sunday 4 October 2026.
Whilst works are on-going, there will be changes to train services between Greater Manchester, Huddersfield and Yorkshire.
No services will operate between Stalybridge and Huddersfield via the normal route, and rail replacement bus services will serve affected stops. Stalybridge, Mossley, Greenfield and Marsdenwill continue to be served, however stopping patterns may differ from usual.
Some service between Piccadilly and Leeds/York will be amended or cancelled.
