Rail improvement works and disruptions

Throughout 2026, planned improvement work and disruptions will take place across the rail network.

These works will affect various different lines, and will be summarised below.

If you are travelling on any of the dates listed below, please plan ahead and allow plenty of time for your journey.

Transpennine Works: Saturday 27 June - Sunday 2 August 2026

From Saturday 27 June - Sunday 2 August, weekend railworks will be taking place between Huddersfield and Leeds as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade.

Whilst the works are ongoing, the railway will be closed between Stalybridge and Huddersfield throughout the weekends. Some services will be diverted, whilst other will be amended or replaced by buses, and journey times will be longer than usual

Salford Central Weekend Closures - July 2026

Due to engineering works taking place in the Salford Cetnral area, the station will be closed every Saturday and Sunday throughout July. As a result, services will not call at Salford Central and will pass through without stopping.

Passengers are advised to alight at Salford Crescent, which is a short distance way, or use city centre stations.
