Train and tram return off-peak combined ticket (child)

You can buy tickets that combine Metrolink tram trips with Greater Manchester train journeys, instead of getting two separate tickets.

Do you qualify?

Your return journey must start from, or go to, a rail station in Greater Manchester.

See map of Greater Manchester rail area

You can use this ticket after 9.30am Monday to Friday, and at any time on weekends or bank holidays.

From age 11 you must carry proof of your age when you use this ticket. Use your igo pass if you have one. If not, carry official ID with a photograph and your date of birth.

The costs and the benefits

A combined off-peak return ticket lets you make a return journey between a Greater Manchester train station and a Metrolink tram stop.

There's no need to buy a combined ticket if your rail journey is into Manchester city centre and the tram stop is in the Metrolink City Zone - you can use your train ticket for that tram journey for no extra cost.

See Metrolink network map

If your tram stop is outside the City Zone however, the cost depends on how far you're travelling; but it's cheaper than buying two separate tickets.

Buy your combined ticket

Buy your combined ticket at a Greater Manchester train station ticket office, or on the train if the ticket office is closed.

If you are starting from a Metrolink tram stop, buy your ticket from the ticket machine at the tram stop before you travel. Like this:

  • press the ‘Day, Family or Group Travelcards and Railzone tickets’ button
  • choose ‘Railzone’
  • press the button for the rail zone that covers the station you're going to. If you don't know which zone, press the information button next to each Railzone, or check the ticket information poster at the tram stop.
