Manchester's winter celebrations bring thousands of visitors into the city centre each year. With festive lights, entertainment, shopping and events around every corner, it's easy to lose focus on your surroundings around the tram network.
That's why Transport for Greater Manchester and the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB) are reminding everyone to stay alert and look out for trams this winter.
Watch out for common distractions
When you're out and about this festive season, take extra care if you're:
- Using your mobile phone
- Wearing headphones or earphones
- Wearing a hood, hat or umbrella that may affect visibility
- Looking after excited children
- Moving through busy, crowded areas
Stay safe around trams
- Stop, look and listen before crossing tram tracks.
- Remember trams can approach from either direction.
- Put your phone away when crossing.
- Remove headphones and stay aware of your surroundings.
- Keep children close in busy areas.
- Never assume a tram will stop.
Enjoy the festivities safely
Whether you're heading to the Christmas Markets, shopping with friends or travelling home after a festive night out, take a moment to stay aware of your surroundings.
