Transpennine Route Upgrade Works

Saturday 2 - Tuesday 26 May 2026

From Saturday 2 - Tuesday 26 May works will be taking place between Huddersfield and Leeds as part of the Transpennine Rail Upgrade.

Whilst the works are being carried out at Bradley Junction (between Deighton - Mirfield), there will be changes to some rail services which operate between Manchester and Leeds.

There will also be additional works for four weekends from Saturday 2 - Sunday 24 May between Manchester Piccadilly - Huddersfield, which will affect some services operating via Stalybridge, Mossley and Greenfield.

On weekdays only from Saturday 2 - Friday 22 May, TransPeninne Express will operate the following train services:

• Liverpool Lime Street to Hull: runs between Leeds and Hull only
• Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle: diverted between Manchester Victoria and Dewsbury, calling at Lea Green and Brighouse
• Manchester Airport to Redcar Central: runs between Manchester Victoria and Redcar Central only, diverted between Manchester Victoria and Dewsbury, and calling at Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Sowerby Bridge and Brighouse
• Manchester Victoria to Scarborough: diverted between Manchester Victoria and Dewsbury, calling at Castleton and Brighouse
• Manchester Piccadilly to York (via Castleford): split to operate between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield, and Wakefield Kirkgate to York
• Manchester Piccadilly to Leeds (Peak only): runs between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield only

The following rail replacement bus services will be running, whilst works take place:

• Manchester Airport to Brighouse: via Stockport
• Huddersfield to Brighouse
• Huddersfield to Wakefield Kirkgate: via Deighton and Mirfield
• Marsden to Brighouse: via Slaithwaite
• Brighouse to Marsden: via Slaithwaite

For four weekends between Saturday 2 - Sunday 24 May works will be taking place on the line between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield as part of the Transpennine Rail Upgrade.

Whilst the works are taking place, trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield will terminate at Marsden.

Services changes will be in place on following weekends:

Saturday 2 - Sunday 3 May
Saturday 9 - Sunday 10 May
Saturday 16 - Sunday 17 May
Saturday 23 - Sunday 24 May

Rail replacement bus service

Two rail replacement services will be operating whilst the works are taking place:

• Stalybridge to Huddersfield via Mossley, Greenfield, Marsden (A62 Manchester Road) and Slaithwaite

• Marsden Station (opposite Platform 3) to Huddersfield via Slaithwaite.

TRU works replacment bus service

Advice for passengers requiring step-free access

Marsden Station does not have step-free access, and the station is accessed via a steep hill.

For customers who require step-free access, or are travelling with prams, pushchairs or heavy luggage, we advise changing at Stalybridge.

Colleagues will be at Stalybridge to assist and direct passengers to the accessible rail replacement bus service.

These works are part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU), a major programme of railway improvements between Manchester, Huddersfield and Leeds. The works, which are being carried out by Network Rail, will bring better journeys to passengers travelling across the Pennines.

During this set of works, TRU will be renewing sections of track and undertaking various improvements and maintenance between Deighton and Mirfield.
