Please read all the information given below and ensure you are able to, and will comply with all the conditions stated.

  • I understand that this scheme is only open to people who hold England National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) Older Person's pass, Disabled Person's Pass, Blue badge permit, or Travel Vouchers.

  • I do not have a condition that would prevent the safe operation of a mobility scooter on the Metrolink network at all times.

  • I understand that if there are any changes to my condition that will impair my ability to safely operate my mobility scooter on the Metrolink network, I will inform TfGM/Shopmobility Manchester and this may result in my permit being withdrawn.

  • I will not use my mobility scooter on the Metrolink network while under the influence of alcohol.

  • I will not use my mobility scooter on the Metrolink network if my ability to operate my mobility scooter safely is impaired by prescribed or non-prescribed drugs.

  • I understand that I will be required to undertake "on tram" training before my application is progressed.

  • I understand that my permit only enables me to travel on the Metrolink network using my registered scooter. If I have one or more mobility scooters that I intend to travel on the Metrolink network with, I am aware that a separate capability test will have to be carried out for each scooter and will need to be registered with TfGM.

  • I understand the permit is non-transferable.

  • I understand that I may be required to present my proof of eligibility for the scheme to Metrolink employees to ensure that I am eligible to travel with my registered mobility scooter.

  • I acknowledge that, although I may have been granted a permit by bus operators for the carriage of my mobility scooter on low floor buses, a separate permit is required to allow the carriage of a mobility scooter on the Metrolink network.

  • I understand that this permit is not recognised across other light rail networks and I should check the conditions of carriage for other operators before travelling.

  • I understand that the terms and conditions for this permit scheme require me to operate my mobility scooter in adherence to the Highway Code and any failure to do so may result in my permit being withdrawn.

  • I understand that the scheme is not restricted to any time of day but that there are times of the day, particularly in the morning and early evening, when the network is very busy.

  • I appreciate that I will not be able to board a tram if the wheelchair space is already in use because I can only travel on a tram when my scooter is parked correctly in this designated area. I will instead have to wait for a tram that has space.

My mobility scooter

  • I will ensure that I turn the power off and apply the brake on my mobility scooter when I am stationary on the Metrolink network.

  • I will remove any roof cover attached to my mobility scooter before accessing a tram.

  • I am aware that it is strongly advised to insure my mobility scooter against damage to property and other customers on the Metrolink network and understand that I may be asked to contribute to the cost/fees incurred for any repairs/damages caused by me, whilst the mobility scooter is in my care on the Metrolink network.

  • I understand that I am responsible for ensuring that my mobility scooter battery has enough charge to complete my journey in full. In the event that the battery fails, I am to free-wheel my scooter off the network at a convenient location and make arrangement for it to be collected.

  • I understand that I am responsible for ensuring that the tyres on my mobility scooter are at the safe operating pressure. In the event that a tyre fails, I am to free-wheel my scooter off the network at a convenient location and make arrangement for it to be collected.

  • I understand that the battery on my mobility scooter will be visually checked as part of the validation process.

  • I understand my Metrolink Scooter Permit needs to be displayed on my mobility scooter when I travel on the Metrolink network.

The Metrolink network

  • I understand that the space on the tram that is dedicated to wheelchairs and mobility scooters is on a first come, first served basis. If the space is not free, I will have to wait until a tram arrives that does have a space free.

  • I understand that there can be variance in the horizontal and vertical distance between the platform edge and tram and this should be considered during any manoeuvres when boarding and alighting the tram "head on" whilst using a mobility scooter.

  • If I have a concern about the ability of my mobility scooter to cross the platform on to the tram, I can contact a member of the Metrolink team via the Customer Service Help Point or Emergency Call Point.

  • If I need assistance from the tram driver, I can use the help/assistance button.

  • I will not use my mobility scooter to force doors open or cause damage to property.

  • I will not attempt to use the stairs or the escalator when accessing or exiting a Metrolink platform/stop with my mobility scooter.

  • I will not use a mobile phone while I am driving my mobility scooter whilst using the Metrolink Network.

  • I will not travel on the Metrolink network overladen with shopping or other items which may affect the steering and safety of my mobility scooter.

  • I understand that it is a requirement to not travel at any more than 4mph on the network and acknowledge that I have been advised, if possible, to limit my speed further when on board a tram.

  • I understand that I must remain seated on my scooter throughout the journey.

  • I understand that while all lifts on the Metrolink network can accommodate reference-sized wheelchairs, not all can accommodate a mobility scooter.

  • I understand that my Permit may be withdrawn if I do not adhere to the above terms and conditions.
