Tram improvement works with no service disruptions

TfGM are carrying out essential replacement works on the turnstiles at Old Trafford and Etihad Campus Metrolink stops to help maintain safe, reliable, and efficient travel. There will be no disruption to tram services while these works take place at either site.

However, at Old Trafford, the turnstiles will be affected by the Trafford Bar track works from 13 July to 3 August. During this period, the stop will be shut.

Why the works are taking place

These upgrades form part of ongoing investment in the Bee Network to ensure Metrolink continues to operate a safe, high-frequency, and reliable service for customers. We appreciate your patience while these essential works are carried out.

In order to improve the step-free access across the tram network, an investment of £1.7 million will fund the replacement of eight ageing lifts over the course of the next nine months.

Each lift replacement is expected to take around two months to complete, during which time the affected lift will be out of service.

The first pair of lifts to be replaced are at Heaton Park from Wednesday 29 July 2026 and Failsworth from Monday 3 August 2026.

Further pairs of lift renewal works are planned to take place sequentially at Hollinwood and Freehold then; Dane Road and Brooklands, and; Chorlton and Firswood.
