Penalty fares for travelling without a valid ticket on Metrolink

If you don’t have a valid paper or mobile app ticket, or you don’t touch-in successfully with a smart card, contactless card or contactless device you may be charged a standard fare of up to £100.

You must buy your ticket or touch-in before getting on the tram, and your ticket must cover the date, time and zone(s) of your journey.

Metrolink staff regularly travel across the tram network checking tickets. A standard fare may be issued as a notice during inspection or as a charge directly to a contactless card or device you presented during an inspection.
