Check if you qualify
Anyone can buy this ticket. But, if you are aged 5 to 16, you can buy child tickets for travel on buses.
If you are aged 11 to 16, you will need an igo card as proof of age to buy child tickets. An igo card is a convenient way to have proof of age and it allows you to buy child tickets for longer, up to 31 August after your 16th birthday.
Find out how to apply for an igo card
When you are no longer eligible for igo, you can apply for Our Pass, a scheme for young people aged 16-18, which entitles holders to free travel on local bus services across Greater Manchester. If you live in Greater Manchester, you can find out if you're eligible and apply for Our Pass at the ourpass.co.uk website.
Under-fives travel free, so don't need a travelcard or pass.
National capped scheme
From 1 January to 31 October 2023, a national £2 single fares cap was introduced, this is for Adult and Child fares.
This has no impact on the single fares cap that was introduced for Greater Manchester in September, but will mean that fares for cross boundary journeys will be no more than £2 (on participating operator services) – see £2 bus fare cap - or contact your operator for more information.
You can find lots of additional information online, including:
- Find tickets and passes to suit you, apply for a pass or renew an existing pass
- Find station, stop, and route information, live departures and timetable information by searching for a bus number (e.g. 192), or bus station (e.g. Stockport bus station)
- View more information about buses, trains and trams such as how to buy tickets, lost property and travelling safely.
If you still can't find what you want, please contact the bus company directly.
