Deansgate Castlefield & Trafford Bar - Tram improvement works

Monday 13 July - Sunday 2 August

From Monday 13 July to Sunday 2 August, tram improvement works will take place at Deansgate-Castlefield and Trafford Bar. During this time, additional works will take place in the city centre and along the Eccles line, allowing us to reduce further closures of the tram network.

The following changes will be in place across the network:

No trams will operate on the Eccles, Trafford Centre and Altrincham lines
Services operating on the East Didsbury/Manchester Airport lines will terminate at Firswood.
Services operating on the Rochdale line will terminate at Exchange Square.
Other tram service changes include: Bury - Ashton-under-Lyne, Bury/Victoria - Etihad Campus.

Replacement buses will operate between the affected stops. See below for more information.

Tram services will resume as normal from start of service on Monday 3 August.

Tram service pattern

Monday to Saturday

Tram services will operate every 15 minutes:

Bury - Ashton-under-Lyne
Bury - Etihad Campus (peak-time only) / Victoria - Etihad Campus (outside peak)
Shaw & Crompton - Exchange Square (peak-time only)
Rochdale Town Centre - Exchange Square
East Didsbury - Firswood
Manchester Airport - Firswood

Sunday

Tram services will operate every 15 minutes:

Bury - Ashton-under-Lyne
Victoria - Etihad Campus
Rochdale Town Centre - Exchange Square
East Didsbury - Firswood
Manchester Airport - Firswood

Replacement bus services

Replacement bus times will be added in due course. At peak times, buses will operate every 7.5 minutes.

Travelling on the Altrincham line

Frequent Bee Network bus services also call at the bus stops near each tram stop. These may provide a faster or cheaper journey option than the replacement bus, depending on your destination.

Please note: Tram tickets are only accepted on the replacement bus and will not be accepted on numbered bus services.

The following Bee Network bus services serve stops on the Altrincham line: 11, 15, 23, 25, 41, 53, 79, 245, 248, 249, 250, 255, 256, 263, 281, 285 and 286.

Please note: The 281 will not operate on Sundays.

Travelling on the East Didsbury line

The following Bee Network bus services serve stops on the East Didsbury line: 11, 15, 23, 25, 41, 42, 42A, 42C, 43, 50, 85, 85A, 86, 101, 103, 111, 142, 143, 147, 171 and 172.

Please note: The 147 won't operate on weekends and the 171 won't operate on Sundays.

Travelling on the Eccles line

The following Bee Network bus services serve stops on the Eccles line: 10, 29, 30, 33, 50, 52, 53, 67, 79, 100 and 248.

Please note: The 85A won't operate on Sundays.

The following Bee Network bus services serve stops on the Trafford Centre line: 30, 150, 248, 250, 255, 256 and 263.

Travelling in the city centre

You can use the fully wheelchair accessible free bus 1 and 2 services to get around the city centre during these works. No ticket is needed.

Greater Manchester now offers the option to hire bikes. Through the Beryl app, you can locate and unlock your bike, get from A to B, then safely lock your hired bike up again - easy!
