Service changes from September 2022

We have always tried to work closely with schools early in the planning process (early spring) to identify potential reasons for changes to services in the coming academic year, such as change of hours or new catchments. This is to help make sure the services meet the needs of pupils, however there are some times when it becomes clear that changes are needed only after the services begin.

In these cases, we have tried to work with schools and operators to quickly respond in making these changes during the first weeks of term. Going forward, due to new regulations that we now need to work under, we will be limited to only making changes at short notice (less than 6 weeks) in exceptional circumstances.

This means it is more important than ever that you keep us informed of any change which may affect the services as early as possible. It will also mean that we may not be able to respond as quickly as you may have come to expect where services have already began operating. we will continue to work with you and operators to find solutions where possible should the need arise, whilst acting within the new regulations.

Cycling and walking

As part of the plan for a London-style transport network (The Bee Network), we are working to revolutionise travel across the city-region, making active travel the number one choice for travelling to work, to school and to the shops.

This year, we have a number of exciting initiatives to support you and your school community get moving:

Youth Travel Ambassadors
This pilot scheme aims to empower young people to research, plan, and deliver campaigns unique to the school such as car free days and walk the world challenges.

Own the Ride
This pilot uses cycle training to build on-road confidence for up to 2,000 student in Years 7 and 8.

Modeshift STARS
STARS Education provides a tool for schools to develop a travel plan. Any school in GM can access the system and become accredited.

School Staff Cycle Training
Training and coaching opportunities to enable school staff and volunteers to deliver cycle activities in school. If this interests your school, email TfGM's Active Travel team.
