Cycle to Heaton Park

Heaton Park can be reached by bike easily from the city centre and different parts of Greater Manchester. The journey from the city centre to Heaton Park takes approximately 30 minutes by cycling.

Cycle parking is available at The Stables Cafe inside the park.

Walk to Heaton Park

Heaton Park is a 60-minute walk from Manchester city centre via Bury Old Road.

Visit the Bee Active website to take a look at walking routes to the park. Just type the postcode 'M25 0DL' for the Sheepfoot Lane entrance, so that you may consider making a change to your travel habits.

Travel by tram

Park and ride

If you have to drive, did you know that there are 24 park and ride sites in Greater Manchester, where you can park your car for free and hop on the tram to your destination? The nearest Park and Ride sites to Heaton Park are:

Whitefield - 331 spaces and 13 disabled spaces.
Radcliffe - 480 spaces and 22 disabled spaces.

Heaton Park is easily accessible by bus, with a number of bus routes serving stops with a short walk's distance from the park:

From Manchester city centre: 135, 59

From Eccles interchange via Salford and Pendlebury: 66

From Simister, Prestwich and Bury: 90, 94, 135

From North Manchester: 94, 59

Tickets

The Bee Bus single ‘hopper’ ticket costs £2 for adults and £1 for children. You can only buy this ticket on the bus.

Use this ticket for a single trip and you can then use the hopper ticket to travel on other Bee Network buses, for no additional cost, within 60 minutes of buying your ticket.

Just keep hold of your paper ticket and scan the QR code on your next bus.

Travel by train

Heaton Park is well connected by tram, with train stations in the city centre, including Manchester Victoria, Piccadilly and Oxford Road, located within a short walking distance from nearby tram stops.

To reach Heaton Park, you will need the Bury line (yellow or green lines on some journey planners) and get off the tram at Heaton Park or Bowker Vale. More information on tram connections is available in our tram section above.

Travel by car

Heaton Park is easily accesible by car, with pay and display parking available at designated car parks off Sheepfoot Lane and Middleton Road.

M25 2SW: Golf Car Park (85 spaces)
M25 2GT: Garden Centre Car Park (9) with overflow car park (50 spaces)
M25 2GT: Hall Car Park (252 spaces)
M25 2GT: St Margaret's Road Car Park (126 spaces)

Heaton Park is approximately 25 minutes drive from the city centre via A56, and 30 minutes drive via A665, however journeys can take longer on busy days and during peak times. Please check for the latest travel advice before you travel.

Accessibility on the bus

Many buses have ramps and can accommodate wheelchairs. Some new buses also have display screens, route numbers, destination displays and audio-visual ‘next stop’ announcements.

A lot of bus operators have low floor buses to make it easier for people who use wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and those with small children and pushchairs.
