Getting to the Etihad Campus during rail renewal works

Saturday 14 - Sunday 22 February

From Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 February, Network Rail will carry out rail renewal works at Manchester Piccadilly train station, During this time, there will be a heavily reduced train service operating from Platforms 13 & 14 only, with no rail connections to the south and east of the city.

Tram services will continue to operate as normal, serving Piccadilly throughout the period of works.

Please note: The Man City v Newcastle United fixture will move to 8pm in the event that either club play away in the Champions League knockout phase play-offs on Wednesday 18 February.

Travelling from South/East Manchester

During the works, most long-distance rail services from destinations including London, Birmingham and Sheffield will terminate at Stockport.

There will be no rail services between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport, Stockport, Rose Hill Marple (via Bredbury), or Guide Bridge.

Rail replacement bus

Eight replacement buses per hour will operate between Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly to keep customers connected.

Bee Network bus

Alternatively, you can hop onboard the 192 bus service to Piccadilly Gardens. Valid train tickets and passes will be accepted on this service, with no extra cost.

From Piccadilly Gardens, customers can reach the Etihad Campus by boarding the 216, 230 & 231 bus services.

Tram

From Piccadilly, customers can board an Ashton or Etihad Campus bound tram, and alight at Etihad Campus.

Cycling and Walking from city centre to Etihad Campus

Etihad Stadium is a 25-minute walk from Piccadilly station. The step-free walking route is well lit and clearly signposted through Manchester’s Ancoats and New Islington areas.

If you cycle via Merrill Street then onto the walking and cycle way by Holt Town tram stop, it takes just 10 minutes.

Manchester City have produced a downloadable map of both the CityLink and Ashton New Road routes.

Visit the Bee Active website to take a look at the area around the Etihad. This includes tram stops for those that would like to combine walking with Metrolink travel. Just type the postcode 'M11 3FF' for the arena, so that you may consider making a change to your travel habits.

Rail replacement bus

One bus per hour will operate between East Didsbury and Manchester Piccadilly.

From Piccadilly, you can continue your journey by tram, bus or on foot. More info below.

Bee Network bus

Alternatively, ticket acceptance will be in place on 50, 51 and 142 services between East Didsbury and Manchester city centre.

Customers can continue their journey by bus to the Etihad Campus by boarding the 216, 230 & 231 bus services from Piccadilly Gardens.

Tram

Rail tickets and passes will be accepted onboard Metrolink tram services between East Didsbury and Manchester city centre. Customers can change at Cornbrook to connect with an Ashton bound tram. This line serves Etihad Campus.

Cycling and Walking from city centre to Etihad Campus

Stopper rail services from Chester will terminate at Altrincham, with no rail connection between Altrincham and Piccadilly.

Rail tickets and passes will be accepted onboard Metrolink tram services between Altrincham and Manchester city centre.

After 8pm on Monday to Friday, after 6.30pm on Saturday and all day Sunday, there will be a direct tram service between Altrincham and Etihad Campus. Outside of these times, customers can change at Piccadilly.

Alternatively, passengers can hop onboard the 370 and 371 bus services to Stockport for onwards connections to Piccadilly. Valid train tickets and passes will be accepted, with no extra cost.

Rail replacement bus

On Sunday's only [15 & 22 Feb], a rail replacement bus will operate between Chester and Stockport via Altrincham. At Stockport, customers can change for another replacement bus to connect to Manchester Piccadilly.

Tram

Rail tickets and passes will be accepted onboard Metrolink tram services between Ashton Moss and Manchester City Centre. This line services Etihad Campus tram stop.

Connections from Manchester Victoria to Etihad Campus

If you opt to travel by rail replacement bus, you'll alight outside Manchester Victoria train station.

You can travel by tram to Etihad Campus by joining a tram service to Piccadilly. At Piccadilly, please change for another tram towards Ashton-under-Lyne to reach Etihad Campus.

Connections from Piccadilly Gardens to Etihad Campus

After alighting the bus in Piccadilly Gardens, make your way to Piccadilly Gardens tram stop to board a direct tram service to Etihad Campus.

Alternatively, customers can reach the Etihad Campus by boarding the 216, 230 & 231 bus services from Piccadilly Gardens, or by opting to follow the CityLink walking route.

Travelling from North/West Manchester

During the works, rail services from destinations including North Wales, Chester, Liverpool, Warrigton Central, Preston and Bolton will terminate at Manchester Oxford Road.

Only three trains per hour (from Blackpool North & Liverpool) will terminate at Manchester Piccadilly.

Free Bus 1

From Stop E on Whitworth Street West, customers can hop onboard the Free Bus 1 for a direct service towards Deansgate-Castlefeld and Piccadilly tram stops. This service operates from 7am to 11.30pm on Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 6pm on Sunday.

Alternatively, St Peter's Square is a short walk away.

Tram

At Deansgate-Castlefield or St Peter's Square tram stop, customers can board a direct tram service to Etihad Campus (Ashton line).
