Service changes from September 2022

We have always tried to work closely with schools early in the planning process (early spring) to identify potential reasons for changes to services in the coming academic year, such as change of hours or new catchments. This is to help make sure the services meet the needs of pupils, however there are some times when it becomes clear that changes are needed only after the services begin.

In these cases, we have tried to work with schools and operators to quickly respond in making these changes during the first weeks of term. Going forward, due to new regulations that we now need to work under, we will be limited to only making changes at short notice (less than 6 weeks) in exceptional circumstances.

This means it is more important than ever that you keep us informed of any change which may affect the services as early as possible. It will also mean that we may not be able to respond as quickly as you may have come to expect where services have already began operating. we will continue to work with you and operators to find solutions where possible should the need arise, whilst acting within the new regulations.

Consider your travel options ahead of a new school year

A new school year is a great opportunity to start afresh and try something new and this year is no different – particularly when it comes to the journey to and from our school.

From Sunday 4 September, the cost of child’s bus fare in Greater Manchester will be capped at £1 for a single journey and £2.50 for an 1-day AnyBus travelcard. With this in mind, if they don’t already, why not consider talking to your child about catching the bus to school?

There are a couple of things you can do to plan ahead, including ensuring your child has their igo card.

With new cycling and walking routes popping up all the time, you could also think about cycling, walking or scooting to school – it is safer and easier than ever to do so! This can be a great, healthy way to start your day – particularly for shorter trips.

If you do need to drive, please switch off your engine when waiting outside to reduce air pollution and, if possible, try parking further away and walking the last part of the journey.

However you chose to travel, it’s important to plan ahead and check the latest travel advice. Support and information about this can be found on TfGM’s Schools Hub, including dedicated advice for our school.
